Transportation
to and from Ruzyne Airport (PRG) and the Prague town center
Ruzyne International Airport is about 20 km (30 minutes)
west of the historic center of Prague.
There are ATMs (AMEX, VISA, MC) and an exchange office in the
arrival hall.
Get some cash and buy a pack of gum or a Metro/Bus ticket to
break those big bills.
There are 3
easy ways to get to the Prague Center.
TAXI- The first and probably easiest
way to get into town is by taxi. There will be several shiny
new VW Passat (or Škoda) cars with Visa stickers on the
doors waiting just outside the arrival hall. The price should
be 550 CZK to the town center. There is a sign as you leave
the arrival hall that reassures you there is a flat rate down
to the Old Town but conveniently the prices have been scratched
off. The drivers are notorious for ripping people off so ask
first and walk away if they try to screw you. The price will
be more to your hotel so get dropped off at Wenceslas Square
and walk from there.
ARRANGE
PICKUP - If your hotel doesn't offer pick-up and drop-off
service (few do) you can try a private company. They'll usually
give you a reliable ride at a price that's very reasonable. Some
can even be waiting when you arrive.
PUBLIC
TRANSPORTATION - This option has one distinct advantage
- you can cruise under all the traffic in or out of the town
center (which can be terrible at peak times). There are 4
easy steps to get to town using Bus
#119 and the A Metro Line
or Bus #100 and the B
Metro Line. For maps and more information see the Metro
section of this site.
Buy one 20 CZK ticket from the Public Transportation
Kiosk in the arrival hall or from the coin operated
machine at the bus stop (remember to hold on to
the ticket until you get to your final destination.
Transit police love to fine tourists). The #119 and #100
bus stop is located in the centre of the car park
in front of the arrival hall and leaves every 10
minutes between 04:30 and 23:30.
Punch your 20 CZK ticket when you get on the bus.
It is good for 75 minutes (90 minutes on weekdays
between 20:00 and 05:00 and weekend days).
You'll be dropped at the Dejvická
Metro Station (bus
#119) which is the west
end of the A- Metro Line or
the Zličín Metro Station
(bus #100) which is at the
west end of the B- Metro Line.
Take the Metro to the stop closest to your hotel
(hotel staff should tell you). The A
Line and B
Line cross in the heart of downtown Prague
on the west end of Wenceslas Square at the Můstek
Metro Station (4th stop or 12th
stop).
